Congratulations to Dr. Colenso Speer and his colleagues for landing their research on the cover of Analytical Chemistry

Congratulations to Chemistry and Biochemistry's Peter Nemes, Biology's Colenso Speer and a team of UMD students and alums for landing their research on the cover of Analytical Chemistry. The team used cutting-edge technologies to study a visual pathway in mice before and after they open their eyes for the first time—an important developmental stage linked to circadian rhythm.
This work was supported by a 2019 seed grant from UMD's Brain and Behavior Institute, as well as earlier funding that Peter received from the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation.
The UMD team also included:
  • Theresa Alexander (B.S. ’15, mathematics; Ph.D. ’23, biological sciences)
  • Sam Choi (B.S. ’10, Ph.D. ’21, chemistry)
  • Shyrice Mitchell (M.S. ’21, biological sciences)
  • Neuroscience and cognitive science Ph.D. student Tarlan Vatan (B.S. ’20, biological sciences)
  • Chenghang Zhang (Ph.D. ’23, biophysics)
